Excessive Roughness on Skinpass Workrolls

2003

Hello,

I am working in HR skinpass mill as quality control supervisor. We are facing the main problem that is Work roll getting very rough after skinpassing of only 1000 ton material. Our requirement is max Ra=2.5 while we observe that we are getting 4 Rs after 1000 MT material process. How can I decrease the Ra ? and how can I extend the work roll process life? Any Help?

Thanx,

Dharmesh Kansara

Common practice is to chrome plate the rolls 0.001" thick. This prevents pick-up and retains surface longer.
