Powder coating and fatigue

1)We powder coat the springs as per IS:4454 grade. Will this effect the life of the springs? 2)what is blackodising and blackening of the components?

It depends on the tempering temperature used for the spring wire and the curing temperature of the powder paint. In general though, powder coating high strength steel springs is a common process, so it is possible to successfully paint springs without adversely affecting the fatigue strength/life.

You could try cathodic electro deposited coating. It is an excellent process for coating springs. It has very superior throwing power. Unlike powder coating it is only 20 microns in dry film thickness and even this thin film can survive 1000 hours of salt spray test (astmb633.htmlb117.html" -->). It is black in color. And this coating is a de facto standard for automobile industry worldwide.

If you desire, we can do some samples for you.

Hope this helps.

Blackodizing is black oxiding, a coating which offers almost no corrosion protection except due to the oil put on the parts. It doesn't sound like the answer.
