Reel to Reel Plating Issues.

2003

Dear Sir,

Just now we have established a reel plating facility for connector terminals used in telecom application.
The specifications mentioned was ndercoat nickel with three microns & top coat Silver with five microns.

Since Reel plating is new for us, we need to establish process controls and effective monitoring for all process variables. We need following advise from experts:
a) What are the process controls we need to establish during nickel under coating process?
b) What are all the process controls we need to establish during silver plating process?

We are in process of finalising the process specification & controls for reel.

For your advise please,

Regards.

As a person with over twenty five years experience with continuous plating equipment, the first item on my agenda would be to confirm the reliability or consistency of the mechanical drives (this will be your dwell time in the cells). You will need to check your rectifiers for their accuracy. Remember with continuous plating the rectifiers do not have an "off" cycle. You may only be able to use 80% of the available power. If you have further questions please post them.
