What is Powder Coating?

2003

Can anyone help me learn about POWDER COATING?

I want to know what is powder coating and how is it done.?
What are the material which can be powder coated.?
Why powder coating is done.?
Is it a substitution of paint? I want to promote this coating business in our country.

We read in many products, saying Powder Coated, but don't know what it is yet.
Please someone reply and thanking you in advance.

Cheers.. TeeJay

The basic idea behind powder coating is that you electrostatically spray a fine grained plastic powder onto your parts, and then heat the parts, and the powder will melt and fuse into a coating quite similar to a painted coating. One of the principal forces driving this coating is environmental friendliness because you do not need to dissolve the pigments in solvent and evaporate the solvent.

Traditionally only metal parts were powder coated but more recently it has become possible to powder coat other substrates through UV curing. Our "must-have books" page recommends some good powder coating books.
