Core 10?
I have a customer that has requested some materials to be fabricated from 1/4" "Core 10" metal. Could you please tell me the difference between "Core 10" and regular carbon steel? I have asked our steel suppliers, but the only thing they can tell me is that it cost more.
Thank You, Sincerely,

Well, there's Cor-Ten steel, a product of US Steel. It's a carbon sheet steel with copper added, and when rusted the oxide layer becomes sufficiently thick that it prevents further rusting. See US Steel's web page on the stuff at http://www.usx.com/corp/Plate/products/usscortn.htm.
I'd guess that this is what your customer wants. You may want to verify.
Good luck!

The name is COR-TEN and it is a trademark of US Steel for their grades of weathering steels. Weathering steels possess enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance, as well as high strength and weldability. You can obtain more information from the US Steel website: http://www.ussteel.com/corp/Plate/products/usscortn.htm
