IRON MANGANESE PHOS COATING
I need to know the what purpose an iron-manganese-phosphate coating serves on a pump gerotor. Isn't this a soft coating which will wear off fairly quickly? The application is automotive powertrain and my company is in the process of quoting, and I am trying to get a little bit of information.

I am not an automotive engineer, and cannot reply with authority. But I was involved with the supply of many manganese phosphate installations in my career and always understood the coating to be for the purpose of break-in protection, so hard metal does not gall hard metal before lubricants have a chance to protect the surfaces.
