Electroless nickel onto Thyroplast 2316
I am having a problem plating electroless nickel on a material called THYROPLAST 2316.The chemical composition being C 0.36% Cr 16% Mo 1.2% .We have tried using a woods nickel with 1 min anodic etch followed by a 2 min cathodic strike and then electroless nickel (12% phosphorous ) 12 microns thick. We are experiencing a flaking of the coating , to the base metal after using the mold (a PVC insert) The problem occurs on the mold insert after 2 weeks of operation at 150 c . Normal cleaning cycles which we originally used (as we at that stage did not know what we were dealing with ) are worse .We would appreciate any ideas

HI JOHN,
YOU MIGHT TRY WITHOUT THE REVERSE CYCLE. JUST LET THE PART STAND IN THE WOODS FOR A MINUTE. THEN PLATE FROM VERY LOW VOLTAGE (4-5V) TO 10V. ALSO, CHECK FOR CONTAMINATION IN YOUR WOODS, ESPECIALLY CU AND CR
