Etching of Titanium Dental Implants

I am looking for a procedure to etch pure titanium after sandblasting with large particles 50 mic. to produce more roughness on the surface. This titanium is for dental use/dental implants. I am a dentist and I make my own research about dental implants made of titanium, I would like to etch my own implants.

Hello,

I'm a chemistry who want to study the process of acid etching on titanium surfaces of dental implants. I'm interest in this process because it provides an irregular surface into which the bone may grow. I would like to know How I applied these process, which acids, its concentration, proportions, I can use. If I have to control the temperature and how long I have to applied the process. I will use an alloy of Ti-6Al4-V.

Thank you for your attention.

Monica,

I would really hope that there is a specification for the grade of Ti and its alloy allowed (if any). I would further hope that there would be an industry specification for it and the etch process. The most likely process will involve a combination of nasty acids and is not something that you should do in a dental lab. A chemistry lab-maybe, but most likely a dedicated lab. Safety is extremely important. How about some more information, first.
