Velocity measurement using visualization technique

2003

I want to measure velocity using the flow visualization technique. This will be done by injecting dye into the flow. Do you know of any dye manufacturer? Also, do any one has information on where I can buy a dye injection system?

What is the relationship between Frames per second and meters per second?

Thanks for your help.

This is a metal finishing site, so do not expect a lot of help. Then, you have not given enough information to be of help-What size, what flow rate, why this method vs conventional flow weir method or fancier. Bromcresolpurple is a very strong indicator. One drop can color a gallon to a visual endpoint. To equate frames/sec to meters, you would have to count frames and have it cover an entire known distance. Your frames are literally a visual stopwatch with a permanent record. This is for film, not videocameras. Talk to your chemistry department about what you can borrow that will do the same thing as an injector. What you need can be as simple as a micro metering pump with a remote on/off switch.
