Plating connectivity problem

2003

Dear Sirs,

We are facing a connectivity problem for the pins in a microelectronic package. How do we plate only pins or blanks and pins. Please note that the pins are isolated from the metal blanks with an insulator. Pins are of the diameters of around 0.3 to 0.6 millimeter. We need to plate this device with electrolytic Nickel & Electrolytic Gold.

Can You help us?

You need to bring plating current to each of these isolated pins, Mr. Upadhyaya. It may be as simple as a knife edge contact that ties all the pins together during the plating step.

Dear Vidya,

If you are barrel plating, you need another conductive media that will bring current to both the pins.

Since you are doing gold finally, this may become expensive however.

My best bet would be to expertly wire up both the ends individually to get the current to each side and rack plate the components.
