Is Brass Statue OK Outside in Winter

Q. Can I leave a vintage brass microscope outdoors in a children's activity area?

A. Hi Jo. Sorry, but I don't think that's a good idea. Brass will not resist the elements; you would need to coat it with brass lacquer this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] or Incralac this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] , which may not work well with moving parts. Wax would help but you'd need to reapply it rather constantly (probably every 2 weeks).

Q. My wife and I have a brass statue from India. I don't know if it has any kind of varnish finish on it. Can you tell us if it's okay to leave this statue outside? Or would it need to have a finish? We live in the mountains; snow in Winter.

Thanks so much.

Incralac
(brass lacquer with benzotriazole)
incralac
on eBay or

Amazon

(affil links)

A. Your statue can be varnished -- Incralac this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] is good for this purpose (USA product). You can use Renaissance Wax this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] (Uk product) too. Rubbing with boiled linseed oil this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] is simplest way to protect Your sculpture.

Good luck!
