Black Organic

2003

Dear Sir,

My question is "black organic" plating requested in a industrial drawing and no further statement for understanding. The drawing is about fasteners products in industrial usage. Would appreciate your help on it.

This refers to an organic paint-type coating, not an electroplated metal coating like zinc, chromium, etc. General Motors Engineering Standard GM6047M is one standard that covers this type of coating. It consists of the following steps:

1. Zinc phosphate pre-treatment
2. Chromic acid sealer (now prohibited by GMW3059)
3. Electrodeposited black organic coating (usually epoxy based)
4. Water/oil emulsion (for friction control)
