PICKLING

2003

1)PLEASE PROVIDE US THE INFORMATION ABOUT CHEMISTRY OF PICKLING & STANDARD PROCESS SEQUENCE FOR HR SHEETS

2) WHAT IS TECHNICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PICKLING & SHOT BLASTING & WHICH IS BETTER PROCESS.

THANKS,

ABHIJIT S BAPAT

Dear Mr Abhijit,

Pickling of HR Sheets is accomplished by using Hydrochloric Acid with an Acid inhibitor. Some People prefer sulfuric Acid for the lesser corrosive fumes. Its is a horrible process, unless you invest properly in fume scrubbers and waste water treatment.

Blasting is accomplished with sand and in open air also by brave people , is cheaper and you can do it also in an enclosed room. It will change the texture of the sheet, but not embrittle the material with Hydrogen as in the acid process.
