316 SS temperature by color at max temp
My company manufactures a heatable high pressure liquid sampling stem valve (HPLIS). The sample groove in the Stem is heated to high temperature (450 °C+) in under 1 sec. The event occurs so quickly that an accurate temperature reading is not possible. It would be best to judge the groove temperature by color at max temp. The groove material is 316 SS and ranges in color from dull red to yellow-white hot. Is there a source of 316 SS temperature by color chart?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

The colour is a function of both the temperature to which the surface was heated, and the time it remained hot, and the atmosphere to which it was exposed. So the single-variable indication that you seek doesn't really exist. There are 2-colour infra-red temperature instruments available, with a response time of much less than a second, that should give you an accurate plot of surface temperature against time.
