STRIPPING OF GOLD FROM JEWELRY

2003

Dear sir,

We make Imitation jewelry, as a part of our production we plate Rhodium over Nickel, then we plate gold around 4-5 micro inches. After drying the job , I have to strip the gold in stone cavity region only. So I tried with a mixture of sodium cyanide 90 gm and 15 gm caustic soda ⇦liquid caustic soda in bulk on Amazon [affil link] , made as a thick paste along with para nitro benzoic acid and applied over the stone cavity to strip gold from cavities, but in turn I noticed that gold is not stripping. MY QUESTION IS WHETHER THERE IS ANY STRIPPING AGENT IN THE PASTE FORM AND GOLD SHOULD STRIP AS SOON AS IT IS APPLIED?

Use masking lacquer to mask before plating instead of trying to strip a selective area. Or you can pen plate rhodium around the stones.
