Painting aluminum windows

Q. I have brown aluminum framed windows in a beach home. Please tell me the prep, Materials and method for changing the color to off white.

A. Sand frames with 120 then with 220-grit sandpaper [affil links]; wipe with denatured alcohol and then brush or spray with XIM [primer] this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] ; top coat with a good oil base paint.

Patrick Glynn
- Pompano, Florida

What is XIM topcoat? Is there a generic name as I am overseas and may not have available specific brands?

Ed. note. We don't think there is a XIM topcoat :-)
We believe that what Patrick G's was saying was: "brush or spray with XIM; top coat with a good oil base paint." So we've added a semicolon :-)
Good luck.
