What kind of refractory metals can stand Hydrofluoric Acid?

2003

Regarding Metal which can stand HF - Hydrofluoric Acid, we have tried Tantalum as well as Niobium and both are eaten away very soon. We wish to boil HF in a closed metal vessel at a temperature of 250 / 300 °C. Is there any other refractory metals or rare metals for alternative ?

Kindly please give us a tip, thanks.

First of two simultaneous responses --

To my knowledge, gold is the metal of choice for contact with HF but I don't know its behaviour at your operating temperature. Why do you need it to be a refractory metal, your temperature doesn't seem too high?

Actually, N.C. 1047 or 1097(?) is a metal used for nose cones on rockets and is 100 % dense silicon metal. It will probably resist anything at any temperature.

Be aware that silicon dissolves very fast in HF environments. NC 1047 can resist high temperature in other environments.
