School project on auto polishing compound
Q. I want to experiment making a basic auto polishing compound. What mild abrasive powder or powders should I use and what should I try as the compound base? I do not want to use any petroleum distillates since this is a school project.

A. I guess I'd try groundfine pumice ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] or Bon Ami ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] in beeswax ⇦this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] if I wanted a completely natural polish. But I'd want to try it out on your car's paint before I try it on my own :-)
