Metal is TOO glossy

I'm a golfer and have a carbon steel putter that is finished with "Black Pearl" finish, which is really a high gloss oxide - I think. This is a great putter but the finish is too glossy - the sun light reflects back into your eyes causing glare. I would like to "de-gloss" the top of the putter without changing the color or the look too much. Any ideas?

Thanks,

You might try matte finish Krylon in a spray can from hardware store or mass retailer. Don't know how durable it will be, but it should take the gloss off.

Bill, you might try spraying the top with an automotive dull black paint. If you didn't like it or wanted to return the putter to original, it could be washed off with solvent, and shouldn't hurt the original finish.

Good luck,
