Hardcoat aluminum for galling resistance
So hardcoat anodizing does not significantly alter the galling resistance of aluminum? I am encountering a design that has used a copper-beryllium bearing surface against a rotating aluminum component and there is significant galling. The part is currently in an as machined state - will hardcoat anodizing of the aluminum component reduce the propensity to gall? Just looking to save cost over switching to electroless nickel.

There is a burnishing process you may consider that compresses and strengthens the crystal structure of the surface. The use of a hardened roller against the surface improves strength and finish.

Hi, folks. I think hardcoat anodizing would significantly reduce the wear and galling situation because the surface is very hard.
That is an interesting suggestion, Matt, but I'm not sure it would apply to hardcoated aluminum. So maybe you are suggesting it for use on the raw aluminum?
