Cutting down tables with table top resin on them

We purchased some round table tops which were suppose to be 48 inches in diameter but in fact were 54 inches. I believe they are finished with table top resin which is about 1/4 inch thick. I need to know if there is any way to cut them down and rout or sand down or grind the corners? I need info on this as soon as possible as this is for our restaurant which is suppose to be opening soon and we have a problem as the booths were built to fit the 48" tables. Thanks so much.

You will not be far off if you consider the top to be one of the many types of fiberglass resins without the fiberglass. Use carbide tipped blades to saw or rout. Wear goggles this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] and an absolute minimum of a particle mask and do it outside with a fan to blow the dust and fumes away (parallel)from you. Now, what are you going to put on the bare wood that you exposed ?
