Could you tell me how to make a decorative sword like they would have in the viking times.

I'd strongly suggest you go to the rec.crafts.metalworking newsgroup. They have a lot more folks interested in bladesmithing, and far more expertise. Not to knock the people here, of course, but you should look where the light's good...
