Possible contamination of nickel strike stainless steel with sulfuric acid

Dear Sirs/Madams,

I have a query regarding the nickel and gold strike procedures. Recently, we have been using components composed of nickel strike stainless steel plated with gold. The plated components are used in a sulfuric acid (6.5M) environment. My question is, if the gold plate for some reason is scratched off exposing the nickel will is corrode and cause contamination? If the answer is yet, would it be better to use gold strike stainless steel?

Nickel strikes are the "standard" and to my knowledge are only advised against if you need to avoid the use of magnetic materials like nickel. In most environments nickel will be more corrosion resistant than the stainless steel so that your reservations should not normally be a problem.
