Q. I am looking for the International standard code for the following composition of aluminium alloy:

Al : 91.692%
Mn : 0.008%
Si : 1.97%
Cu : 1.05%
Zn : 4.14%
Mg : 0.94%
Fe : 0.20%

A. Looking in my copy of the Teal Sheets, which list internationally recognized wrought aluminum compositions, I find NOTHING which matches your composition. Nor does the ASTM list any cast aluminums with this combination of elements in those proportions.

So how did you get these numbers? If by EDS from an SEM, then the numbers could easily be inaccurate, and your material might be a high strength aluminum. If not, your material may be a special brew.

A. Checking with the aluminum association handbook this looks like a member of the 7000 series. I could not tell much more. I hope this points you in the right direction.
