PRESSING PROBLEMS ON ALTERNATOR SHAFTS
We are manufacturing Alternator Shafts & Core Sub-assemblies. We are repeatedly facing building problems on the pressing face of the shafts and as such our production is very much affected. Both shafts and cores are closely monitored for tolerances within spec. Shafts are knurled to pitch 1.20 and bore ø's of cores are also machined on CNC.
a) Could material play a part. (Currently we are using CK45 for Shafts & EN3B for cores).
b) Is surface finish of core bore dia a factor ?
Kindly help us in sorting out this problem.

I am no longer involved with manufacturing. It's been a very long time ago: however, when I was involved with extremely close tolerance fits, we used liquid nitrogen to freeze the mating parts, or at least one of them. Can't remember any more.
