Dangers of zinc
I would like to know if there is any dangers with zinc metal?

2003 Zinc can be pretty dangerous stuff especially if somebody hits you over the head with a galvanized pole. (Though is the pole dangerous or just the person who wields it ?) But seriously can you be a bit more specific, if you are researching yet another "dangerous material" question for your homework, perhaps teachers should start asking students to differentiate between hazard and risk. If you type in MSDS and zinc in your search engine you will find details on hazards associated with zinc or even try typing zinc development association. Regards, Richard Guise- Lowestoft, U.K. What kind of dangers do you want to talk about? Making it into a knife or hammer or bullets or? If you do not eat it, drink it or smoke it, it has very little danger. For the science report that you are doing, go to the search engine near the top of this page -- type in MSDS -- for Material Safety Data Sheet and one of the entries will give you where to go to get a MSDS for Zinc. Now do you mean zinc, or zinc powder or zinc compounds. They are all different. James Watts- Navarre, Florida 2003 Hi Amanda. Water poses the danger of drowning; bread poses the danger of choking; on TV detective shows I've seen victims bludgeoned to death with zinc candlesticks. Thus there are dangers of all different sorts with absolutely everything in the world. Surely you must be more specific? Your science project should probably start with trying to answer a rather narrow and specific question that you can handle in a few pages, rather than one which would take you hundreds or even thousands of pages to properly address :-) A question like: "Are the currently popular zinc countertops likely to cause ingestion of an excessive amount of zinc and, if so, under what circumstances?". Best of luck with your project! Ted Mooney, P.E. Striving to live Aloha finishing.com - Pine Beach, New Jersey 2003 |
