Is TGIC in powders a carcinogen?

I am looking for information on TGIC in powders. Is this or is this not a carcinogen...? I keep getting conflicting information and am on the team to spec powders. Please help.

First of two simultaneous responses --

Hi Gilbert,

TGIC is not classed as a carcinogen, however let me quote from the HSE engineering info sheet No. 15 (rev):-

"Animal studies have shown that TGIC can cause generic damage giving rise to concern about potential reproductive or carcinogenic effects. In particular, there is animal evidence that exposure of men to TGIC may produce generic changes in sperm which can lead to heritable effects in offspring. ........ As a consequence, TGIC is now classified under the Chemicals (Hazard info & packaging for supply) regulations 1997 (CHIP) as Toxic, Irritant and as a category 2 Mutagen."

Hope this answers your question effectively.

Your material selection process should include requesting the MSDS of each chemical component.
