Finger discoloration from 14K ring

I just received a beautiful ring from my husband for Valentine's Day. It is 14K gold with a raised diamond and sapphire setting. I have notice over the past 2-3 days that the circular setting (not the band) is discoloring my finger (light blackish) and am wondering why. He purchased the ring at a well-known major department store and it was not cheap. Thank you for your assistance.

Maybe there is some polishing compound left on this part of your ring. It should wash off with a little soap and water.
