Wanting to polish my swingarm, maybe rims too

I am planning on polishing the swingarm on my 98 CBR 600. (maybe the rims later). Thanks for all the info to help me so far. How do I know what metal the swingarm (and rims) is made of? Aluminum or steel? Are the steps for polishing the two the same? One of the earlier tips from Preston Van Name (letter no. 800) said to use a stripper first on rims. No one else talked about this later on. Should I use this on the swingarm too, or just start from scratch with wet sandpaper? Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thnx,

It would be best if someone familiar with this bike would tell us what the swingarm is made of, John, but a magnet will stick to steel and will not stick to aluminum. letter 800, and others that can be found with the search engine and a lot of patience will give lots of info. Good luck.
