How is anodizing removed?

2003

Dear Sirs,

I have an application where I am using 1" optical tubes for a sensor. However, I would like to have a good ground for my sensor shield. So I would like to remove the black anodize from the tube so that it conducts to my aluminum cabinet electrically. These are regular lens tubes.

Thank You,

The best chemical solution for stripping anodized coatings is a chromic-phosphoric acid mixture. Use the search term 'chromic-phosphoric stripping' in the search engine link from the bottom of this page and read all about it :-)

The kitchen plater suggests "Draino" once again. Sodium hydroxide, straight caustic, strips anodize well enough. Use in as hot water as you can get.
