Chrome Painting Car Dash Faceplate Trim

2003

Hi,

I stumbled across letter 14135 reference chrome painting of auto dash trim. With regard to that I have a 1969 Firebird and the dash faceplates are black and have chrome trim around the instrument cluster, heater controls, speedometer etc. I have a 1973 Nova with the same. The chrome is pretty much worn off both dash faceplates. I am looking for a Chrome paint that I can buy in small quantities, be brushable? I was thinking about using a stripeing brush? Finding a product that can be purchased on the internet? Finding a place in Rhode Island, Mass. or Conn. where I can buy it.

In Advance Thanks,

Richard Benjamin

Hi, Richard.

Although exterior parts on a 1969 or 1973 car might have been chrome plated, it is very unlikely that interior plastic parts were actually chrome plated. Furthermore, if they were, the chrome plating would not have worn off -- it lasts decades on fully exposed exteriors. The parts were probably vacuum metallized.

We've added a banner near the bottom of the page listing some suppliers of chrome-look paint which, in final effect, is quite similar to the vacuum metallizing. Good luck.
