Stripping blistered chrome from aluminum wheels

I need to strip peeling, blistering chrome from aluminum motorcycle wheels chromed in the mid eighties, perhaps a hundred of them. Shall I use abrasives or chemicals? Any specific information would be appreciated. I am in the Detroit, Michigan area.

There are various possibilities for aluminum to be chrome plated. If nickel underplate was used an immersion in room temp industrial grade nitric acid will dissolve it lifting the chrome w/o affecting the alum. Other underplates require to be identified and other strip methods. Abrasive blasting might be considered but difficult due to the softness of the alum.
