Ecoat, how is it done?

We produce metal stampings for the automotive industry. Our customer wants us to provide E-coated parts. We want to set up our own line. Question? How do you do it? Where do you get info.?

E-coating is done by immersing the parts in a series of pretreatment vats, and then the e-coat tank proper, and then post-treatment tanks or rinses. Within the e-coat tank electricity is applied to the parts, which causes the coating to deposit onto them.

Usually the parts hang from workbars which are carried from tank to tank by programmed cranes.

The largest supplier is PPG but they now have competitors. You can find a lot of info on the web by using such synonyms as electrocoating, electrophoretic, electropainting, cataphoretic, etc.

If you know nothing about the subject but intend to install a system, you probably should be looking for a consulting engineer to educate you and represent your interests.
