Need smoother, brighter nickel plating

I am trying to get a mirror finish on custom bike parts, these part are made out of mild steel and welded. I have problems with low current areas, should I lay down a couple different nickel or maybe a copper under or what?. I use a brush plater and this seems to help, but I was wondering if there any techniques any of you know for getting mirror like finishes with not so mirror metal. Peace!

thanks for any responses.

Yours, Truly

Nickel is the best self-levelling bright plating, Barrett. If you are unable to get sufficient brightness, then the metal isn't smooth enough. You can polish the steel, or you can plate it with copper and polish the copper before the nickel plating. Good luck.
