Q. I am using thin film Teflon coatings on various substrate. Since Teflon by nature is no-stick, has any method been used to quantify adhesion strength of Teflon films other than standard procedure in ASTM D3359.

I would like to know if a polymeric thin film adhesive or tie layer exists that can effectively bond teflon to either non polar or polar polymer substrates. I'm focusing primarily on applications where a multi-layer composite (3-layers) can be continuously multi-layer extruded in a commercial fashion.

If this isn't feasible (e.g. viscosity or thermal incompatibility), is there a polymer or compatibilizer that can be dry blended with teflon that enables the final formulation the ability to retain the primary surface characteristics of teflon and still allow it to be bonded to a polar or non polar substrate such as the PVC or the Polyolefin family of polymers in a molten state?

I am also using teflon films on different substrate but do not find adhesion satisfactory.

Please let me know if anybody has measured the adhesion by any means and if they have any quantifying data for that.
