Surface treatment M. S.

2003

Dear Sir,

Could you please suggest a proper method to treat MILD STEEL MATERIAL to make it corrosion-proof for environmental factors, especially irrigation waters and air. I mean can the surface be modified to resist corrosion by water by some sort of surface treatment other than paint application.

Best Regards,

I believe a yellow chromate conversion coating by plating or any other means should provide a reasonable protection. But how about using a plastic pipe instead, rigid or flexible, PVC or any other suitable material.

Dear Pune,

Besides paint application, there are other methods that resist corrosion. In a simplest way, here they are: Electro- or conversion plating (Ni, NiCr, Galvanizing, phosphating, chromating, alloy plating etc), post treatments (oiling, waxing, ), inhibition (anti-rust agents application, VCI etc), or even some state-of-the art methods such as Ion plating (PVD, CVD, sputtering etc), thermal spray. Or you may open yr consideration to changing material of construction, look for noble metals or non-corroded material.

The right person you may look for is your supplier, they would have various of corrosion control products that solve this trouble.

Good luck.
