Boating Accident

2002

Gentlemen:

I have a 41' Power Boat with several stainless steel fender holders or baskets. We were hit by another boat damaging sever of our stainless steel baskets, 2 were crushed and 2 were severally bent. My question should I try to have them repaired or do I have to have them replaced?

Your professional comments and opinions would be most appreciated! Harold Akers

Harold, my simplistic take on it would be:

If the parts are structural, such that they take loads and need to function to preserve the integrity of the boat, then you want replacements. If the parts are not structural, then it becomes a choice of aesthetics and economics. I would GUESS that the parts are 300 series stainless steel, which can be readily formed, straightened, welded, etc by competent folks.

Good luck! lee gearhart
