Copper preservation

I have just purchased a cupola & weathervane for the top of my roof. The weathervane is an eagle made out of copper and the roof of the cupola is also made of copper. I would like to know how do I preserve the natural look of the copper without it fading to green over time. Is there a coating that I can apply to make it last. Keep in mind I live in NJ and am subject to all 4 seasons.

Thank you,

I'm wondering if someone could tell me how to keep my weathervane shiney. I'm told that spray on products weather and then they have to be stripped off and re applied every year. is there some sort of treatment that can be done to it to keep it new looking? Does anyone know of someone in Michigan who treats copper weathervanes?
