Cleaning and Passivation of Stainless Steel
A friend has welded some couplings on my stainless steel boiling pots for me. The industry uses nitric acid to clean & passivate stainless after welding, etc. How can I do this at home? I have read about nitric acid & it seems to be some bad stuff. Is there an acid solution for the "home market" that I can buy that will clean & passivate stainless?

Yes, you can get very good passivation of welds using safe citric acid products. There are gelled products like paint or even trigger sprayer products. These products will do a good job of passivation, but will not remove all of the weld discoloration, if you need this. You can easily remove that in a number of ways before passivation. Call us if we can help.
