Chrome plating that looks like nickel

I am looking for a Chrome plating technique that looks like nickel plate. I bought a 20s car which apparently has some parts plated in this way. Certainly they look correct (should be Ni) and they hardly tarnish, and there is a letter on file saying that the owner (in UK) was going to use a special chrome finish looking like nickel. He died in 1992 though! Christopher van Essen

Why are you trying to replace the nickel plating on a vintage auto with chrome plating that looks like nickel plating, instead of just doing nickel plating? Are you trying to apply the chrome to the nickel, as a tarnish preventative, without it looking like you did so? Ted Mooney, finishing.com

At the moment I am curious about whether the technique exists. Allegedly some of the car's parts are plated this way. Certainly I feel some parts look like nickel but tarnish remarkably slowly.

In the future I could be interested to plate or replate some parts this way, the point being to slow the tarnishing of the nickel while preserving the appearance. And not compromising on the durability.
