Rust preventive coating
Dear Sir,
I am a design student working on a project where I have to design office accessories in metal. These products will be mass produced for export purposes. I have designed a file rack in sheet metal and have thought of using mild steel for the purpose. I want to know what coating can I use to make it rust preventive. Also, what is the process for giving a combination of matte and glossy surface on the same sheet. I will be highly obliged if I could receive any help.
Thank you Regards,

The easiest way is probably to phosphate the parts and paint or powder coat them. It is possible to polish the metal or roughen it before painting to give a somewhat different texture, or to use two different paints. But actually there are hundreds or thousands of possible answers to a question as broad as what you should do to prevent rust.
