HF and sulfuric acid mixture
2002
I have a mixture, which is prepared by mixing aqueous HF (40%) and Conc. sulfuric acid. Percent of HF and H2SO4 in mixture noted. By the known volume of this mixture, known weight of Aluminium is reacted. I noted the time taken for completing the reaction.
Another is mixture of same percent of HF and H2SO4 but it is said that it is prepared by passing Anhydrous HF gas in Dil. sulfuric Acid . The same volume of this mixture and same weight of aluminium as above reacted. Again the time noted.
In both cases same weight of aluminium is consumed but in second case the time taken for completing the reaction is much less.
Can anyone tell me though: if the percent of HF and H2SO4 in both mixtures is the same, why the time taken for reaction is different? Does during preparation of second mixture Fluorosulfuric acid form?

A. No, fluorosulfuric acid won't form as your sulfuric is diluted and fluorosulfuric gets hydrolized obviously in presence of water.
I am doing a same kind of work. I have some info and would require some from you. So can you please write down your email id, so that I can contact you.
