How can I get a satin finish on aluminum using an acid solution?
2002
Dear sirs,
As we produce aluminum caps in Brazil for the cosmetic industry, we are trying to reach a satin finish using an acid solution that would not react with our titanium racks. We have tried caustic soda ⇦liquid caustic soda in bulk on Amazon [affil link] (basic solution) but we don't get the finish (satin) we need. Can some one help me with this problem?

1. Try adding Sodium Fluoride to the Caustic Etch, first 1 oz/gal , then try 2 oz/gal
2. Try Phosphoric Acid with Detergent. Many commercial products in varying strengths are available or you can lash up your own. Try it cold, then warm, then hot.
If any of the above gets close but not exact, then tell us and come back for more suggestions.

Thank you for your reply, but what do you mean when you say I should use detergent, what kind of detergent should I use?
