Sputtering vs. Vapor coating

When metallizing PET Film for Fabrication of solar control window film, Does sputtering have any advantages or superior characteristics versus vapor deposition when using Aluminum as metal?

Michael R. Byrd

By vapor deposition I assume you mean ion vapor deposition, or IVD, a common means of depositing aluminum wherein the aluminum is evaporated. Sputter deposition of aluminum should result in a better coating -- the metal reaches the substrate with greater kinetic energy -- but is generally a much slower process, and therefore more expensive.
