Electropolish Solution Alternatives

I remember reading some time ago about an electropolishing solution for stainless steel that utilized a salt bath rather than acid and was much more environmentally friendly. This technology may or may not be derived from similar technology disclosed by the Russians some 50 or 60 years ago. Is there any alternatives to the acid solutions that would be beneficial from handling and disposal standpoint and, if so, how does their performance compare?

You are right, there are such technologies. The technology that was disclosed some 50-60 years ago lacks in performance in comparison with new technologies of electropolishing in salty solutions.

We can suggest two electropolishing methods:
One technology uses high voltage and polish metal in minutes. Most suitable for smaller parts, such as surgical instruments, implants, electronic parts, etc. Another one is specially designed for large metal parts. Electropolishing do not etch the surface if operator is unskilled; surface is evenly polished. Both technologies use salt solutions, very safe and environmentally clean. No waste is generated, oxides are easily removed from solution.
