"Metal Fatigue in Engineering"

on AbeBooks

or Amazon

(affil links)

Q. Hello, my final year thesis is about improvement of fatigue strength of 1045 steel by induction hardening,I'm using a Rotating Bending Machine, sir I'm facing a problem actually, I've mounted the untreated specimen first on the machine, weight of 200 Kg is set, more than 3000000 (thirty lack) cycles it has borne and still no broken, sir actually we are operating the machine first time ever.sir we have to stop the machine at off timings, is it right to discontinue the test.
please guide me in this regard, I'm very worried about my project sir, and I've to submit it within the month.

regards,

A. The fatigue does not bother about whether you apply the loadings continuously or discontinuously. if you apply the loadings for some number of cycles and then stop the machine the life of the component would have been reduced by the number of cycles that you used it for.
