Mirror finish zinc plating

We are into ammonium based acid zinc plating of steel hinges. Can abrasive polishing of the material prior to plating help in achieving mirror finish on the hinge? Or should we polish the zinc after plating?

Thank you for your time.

All mechanical abrasive systems are material removal systems. That alone should answer your question. If you put a plating on, you technically will be removing it with a finishing process after that. Mass finishing systems are preparations for very smooth or thin chemical treatments. The smoother the surface profile of the material, normally the more shine the part has and the more even the plating.

Hi,

Do you use any kind of brighteners in this bath? It sounds like a moderate polish before processing, a good proprietary brightener system and a judicious operation will solve your problem.
