Painting Cast Aluminum Seats by a Novice

Q. I have recently purchased 8 new cast aluminum tractor seats. They are in the raw form from the foundry. I will be using them on a round picnic table on my new deck. That means they will be exposed to direct sun light and heat. I am a novice when it comes to painting this material. Can someone recommend a method for finishing the seats that has durability, color selection and ease of application?

Q. Hi,

I was just doing a similar search and see that you are from right up the road. I live in Little River, SC. I am repainting an old wrought iron gate that has ornamentation out made from aluminum. The paint is freely peeling off the aluminum and I am afraid no paint will stay on. I just scraped one side and primed with spray paint. It can be scratched, still.

Any suggestions will be appreciated if you find out.

Thanks

A. Not sure how old this question is but I have used [adv: Por-15 2k Clearcoat on eBay or Amazon [affil links] products with good success on many outdoor metal projects. The paint has held up nicely and is advertised as rock hard. Take a look at their website.

Q. Also I was wondering where by chance you found those type of seats from the foundry as I have been searching for some and wondered if they still have them?
Thanks for any help.
John
