Brass refinishing

Q. My brass bed needs a lift. I think that this it is brass plated. Could you please give me some tips on how to refinish it. I was thinking of changing it to a pewter look. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Q. Did you find an answer to your brass refinishing of the brass bed? I sure would like to know. I have drawer handles that need redoing of the brass finish/paint without looking dull. Betty

A. Unlike painting, electroplating cannot be done at home. You can somewhat change the tone of the brass, for probably a limited time, while maintaining the metallic look, with a "Rub n Buff this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] ". Beyond that you would be pretty much limited to paint unless you are willing to send the work to a plating shop. You can get tints for lacquers, but going from brass colored to pewter colored sounds like it's asking a lot from a tint.
