High Wear Resistance Coating Needed
I would like to increase the wear resistance of gear by coating the gear teeth contact area with wear resistance material. Would anyone can advise what kind of coating should I do? Hard chrome is not a good solution in this case.

Please try electroless nickel for your application.

Nitriding can be wear resistant especially for heavy duty use.

You could try a PVD metal nitride coating. I would suggest a chromium nitride. It should give you very good wear resistance without degrading the fatigue life of the gears. Zirconium nitride might also be a good coating. You might have problems with titanium nitride -- it has a very high elastic modulus.

You can try TD Process (Vanadium Carbide Plating) which can achieve more than 100 HRC.
